The Nutcracker is a Christmas benefit ballet concert by CAPA Dance Academy in collaboration with JCI Roxas Halaran. Its proceeds support the academy's Indak ballet scholars and children with cancer in Roxas City.
Year 1: December 10, 2023
The first concert was held at 6:00 PM on December 10, 2023, at the CAP Auditorium on Fuentes Drive, with the Capiz Lioness Lions Club also collaborating. Professional guest ballet artists danced key roles. Tickets ran from PHP 250 to PHP 1,000. VP Lemuel Capa was Project Chairman.
In 2024, funds from the concert bought art supplies for children with cancer, presented at a Bell of Hope ceremony at Saint Anthony College Hospital.
The first Quadro Award
At the 44th Visayas Area Conference in Bohol in 2024, The Nutcracker won the Quadro Award for Best Educational Program. It was the first Quadro Award in JCI Roxas Halaran's history. The chapter credited President JP Sorongon and VP Lemuel Capa, who was Project Chairperson and bid writer.
Year 2: December 15, 2024
The concert returned at 6:00 PM on December 15, 2024, at the CAP Auditorium. Auditions for dancers aged 14 to 21 were held on September 26 and October 2 at the CAPA Dance Academy studio. Guest dancers Marcus Tolentino and Beatriz Martina Demaisip joined CAPA's performers. Tickets started at PHP 250, with early-bird group discounts.
Before the concert, the chapter and CAPA gave gifts to children with cancer at their Christmas party at St. Anthony College Hall.
